Definition

Factory New (FN) is the highest of the five wear tiers in CS2. A skin lands in Factory New when its float value — assigned at drop and immutable — sits in the range 0.00 ≤ float < 0.07. The bucket boundaries are global: identical for every skin in the game and unchanged since the wear system shipped in 2013.

The narrowest bucket

Factory New covers 7% of the unit interval, by far the narrowest of the five tiers. A uniform random draw across 0.000–1.000 produces an FN-bucket float 7% of the time on an unclipped skin. The actual rate at which case openings produce FN copies is lower in practice because many skins ship with a clip that excludes the FN range entirely — see the clipping section below.

The narrowness is what drives the FN premium. On most skins, FN trades 1.5–3× the price of Minimal Wear. On collector items the premium is wider — the AWP Dragon Lore FN trades roughly 3–4× a Minimal Wear copy, with sub-0.005 FN copies in their own price tier above standard FN.

Float clipping — not every skin reaches FN

Many CS2 skins are float-clipped to a sub-range of the unit interval. The clip values live in items_game.txt and restrict which exteriors the skin can exist at. A skin whose clip starts above 0.07 cannot reach Factory New at all:

  • AWP Asiimov — clip 0.18–1.00. No FN, no Minimal Wear, no low-FT.
  • AK-47 Redline — clip 0.10–0.70. No FN.
  • Five-SeveN Hyper Beast — clip 0.06–0.80. Almost no FN (very thin band).
  • M4A4 Hellfire — clip 0.18–0.95. No FN.

When a price tracker has no Factory New entry for one of these skins, the clip is the reason. The full mechanism is covered in the patterns, floats and wear pillar.

Sub-bucket pricing inside Factory New

Above the ~$50 line, the exact float inside FN moves the price. The market subdivides the FN bucket roughly as:

  • Sub-0.005: the true low-float tier. CSFloat publishes a global rank ("the 7th-lowest float AWP Asiimov ever recorded") and that ranking is marketable. 1.5–3× a standard FN.
  • 0.005–0.01: clean low float. 1.2–1.5× a standard FN.
  • 0.01–0.04: standard FN.
  • 0.04–0.069: FN by label, but with visible-up-close wear on textures that bake in scuffs (AK-47 Asiimov, M4A4 Hellfire). Some traders discount toward MW price.

Below $50, the sub-bucket gradation collapses and FN trades at a single price.

How to read a Factory New float

Right-click the item → copy inspect link → paste into CSFloat or any community float checker. The four-decimal float is returned. If the float is below 0.07, the item is Factory New. The full lookup workflow is in how to check a skin's float in CS2.
